XABI ALONSO FOR CHELSEA?
If this comes off, we should expect to see Liverpool fans weeping like little girls who have lost their Bratz dolls (are they still a thing?). There has been vague talk about Xabi Alonso joining Jose Mourinho at Chelsea ever since he returned to Stamford Bridge but now the Daily Star claims that the Blues' hopes 'have been given a massive boost'.
And what is this massive boost? It's Real Madrid's interest in probable replacement Asier Illarramendi, currently a Real Sociedad player. The theory is that his arrival at the Bernabeu will allow Alonso - who has just a year left on his contract - to leave Madrid for London.
Alonso in a Chelsea shirt? There will be tears.
LIVERPOOL MISS OUT ON MKHITARYAN
It's not a good day for Liverpool fans. It seems that they have missed out on Shakhtar midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who for some reason decided that Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are a more attractive prospect than seventh-placed Liverpool.
The Armenian is heading to Germany for a medical and pay talks with Dortmund after they agreed to pay the Ukrainian side £21.5m. So where will Liverpool turn now? Answers on a tear-stained postcard please...
With Alvaro Negredo heading to Manchester City for around £20m, it looks like Edin Dzeko will be heading out. But where? Both The Sun and the Daily Express suggest that he could be going to Napoli to replace Edinson Cavani in Rafa Benitez's side, but the Daily Star suggest he could instead replace Edinson Cavani at Atletico Madrid.
And yes, that is as good as the gossip gets. Blame Andy Murray.
