NEW BID FOR BAINES
Let's start off in The Guardian this morning, for they report that Everton expect Manchester United to make a new bid for Leighton Baines at some point in the coming days.
Apparently United's initial offer was for £10million, but United are 'are believed to be close to making an improved offer for the England international, albeit one that remains way below Everton's £20m valuation of the 28-year-old.'
Indeed, Everton seemingly really don't want to sell their man, with Roberto Martinez keen to keep him at Goodison, and give him a new contract.
This one may run and indeed run.
CHELSEA MOVE FOR SUAREZ
Luis Suarez currently resembles a bit of raw fish that circles diners on conveyor belts at one of those trendy sushi restaurants, with Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger and whoever else considering reaching over to grab him and put him on their plate.
Well, sort of. It's perfectly possible those restaurants are no longer trendy. We aren't very trendy. Do people even use the word trendy anymore?
Anyway, The Daily Mirror reports today that it's Chelsea that have made the latest move for Suarez, with Mourinho considering a £40million move for the Liverpool striker.
The paper claims: 'Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has the financial clout to back Mourinho in his quest for a top class striker.
'And after moves for Hulk, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani failed to materialise, they are now looking at Suarez.'
Real Madrid, for whom Suarez would probably rather play and to whom Liverpool would probably rather sell, are yet to make their move.
DOWNING TO WEST HAM?
West Ham appear to be the place where failed Liverpool signings go to pasture.
After taking Andy Carroll off their hands, apparently the Hammers are keen on bringing Stewart Downing to the Boleyn as well.
The Daily Star reports: 'The Hammers have already splashed out £15m for Andy Carroll are now are weighing up whether to bring out the cheque-book again.
'The 28-year-old has two years left on his current contract and was told by Brendan Rodgers he was free to find a new club in November.'
£8million is the fee, apparently.
WHERE'S BENTEKE GOING?
So Christian Benteke has handed in a transfer request, and there are conflicting reports about where he might go in the morning papers.
The Daily Telegraph says Chelsea are keen, The Daily Mail reckons Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal are all keen, while The Daily Mirror chucks Manchester City into that particular mix as well.
The bad news for those suitors is that everyone seems to agree that Villa will hold out for at least £25million.
BARCA TO MAKE LUIZ BID
Quick line from The Daily Mail, that was knocking around in the European papers on Monday.
The Mail claims Barcelona have 'launched a £30million bid for David Luiz', but that Chelsea want more, if they sell him at all.
The paper reckons it's '50-50 whether Luiz will stay at Chelsea.'
CITY AFTER JOVETIC, WON'T GET PEPE
Stevan Jovetic is a name that hasn't been in the gossip pages for a little while, so The Sun obviously decided to right that one, reporting that Manchester City are in for the Fiorentina striker.
The paper claims: 'The Montenegro star, 23, has a £27million buy-out clause that is proving an attractive option among Premier League clubs in the race to sign him.
'SunSport understand Liverpool are also keen along with Chelsea and Arsenal.
'But it is City who are moving into pole position having sold Carlos Tevez to Juventus. plus they can cope with his basic wage demands of £120,000 a week.'
Meanwhile, The Independent reports that Real Madrid won't sell Pepe to City, and that Pablo Osvaldo isn't going there either. Alvaro Negredo might, though.
