REDS LINE UP TRIO OF NEW SIGNINGS
It seems Liverpool are ready to step up their summer recruitment drive as Brendan Rodgers eyes three new players to help with the Reds' Champions League push.
According to the Sunday Mirror, Liverpool will offer £22million for Ajax duo Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld, who rejected a move to Norwich this week, while Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand is also on Rodgers' list.
'Attacking midfielder Eriksen, 21, and Belgium international defender Alderweireld, 24, both only have one year remaining on their Ajax contracts and are expected to leave the Dutch club,' report the Mirror.
'Dortmund had also been chasing Eriksen, but Liverpool now only expect to face competition from Roma.'
Ajax coach Frank de Boer has admitted that Eriksen "wants to make another step in his career" and hinted that Liverpool stand a chance of capturing the playmaker despite being unable to offer Champions League football.
De Boer said: "If Liverpool go back to really good possession play, it can be a success for Christian. But it does mean that their entire way of playing has to change. It is up to Christian what he wants. If he feels good going to Liverpool anyway, then it is up to him."
Along with the Ajax pair Rodgers is also keen on Bertrand, who he apparently sees as a long-term replacement for Jose Enrique. It's thought that the manager's interest might give Chelsea an advantage in a bid for Luis Suarez, however, as the Blues continue their search for a new striker.
CITY CLOSE IN ON JOVETIC
It looks like Man City could soon announce the signing of Stevan Jovetic, with The Sun claiming that personal terms are the only thing left to be agreed for a transfer to be concluded.
It's thought that City have agreed a £27million fee with Fiorentina, while Jovetic's demands of a five-year contract worth £120k-a-week shouldn't be an issue after City made room for his arrival with the sale of Carlos Tevez.
'A source close to the Montenegro star' told The Sun: "It's pretty much sorted he'll go to City.
"They just have to sort his contract. It shouldn't be a big problem."
DROGBA SET TO RETURN?
An interesting line from the Sunday Mirror now, who claim that Jose Mourinho is planning to bring Didier Drogba back to Stamford Bridge.
The striker still has one year remaining on his Galatasaray contract, but according to the Mirror Mourinho is prepared to wait and offer Drogba a role in 12 months' time if a deal can't be struck this summer.
The paper report: 'Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal Drogba visited Chelsea's Cobham training ground last Monday and spoke to Mourinho, although the nature of the discussion was private.'
There might be some truth in this, or it could turn out that Drogba was simply stopping by to say hello as Galatasaray prepared for a pre-season friendly against Shrewsbury.
CHELSEA IN POLE POSITION TO SIGN ROONEY
Several of the Sunday papers are reporting that David Moyes will wait 12 months to see if Wayne Rooney can return to his best form before making a decision over the striker's future.
Rooney has just two years left to run on his contract, but Moyes isn't prepared to offer him an extension until he is convinced he can get Rooney "right back to where he was".
Meanwhile, the Sunday Mirror are reporting that Chelsea are set to step up their interest in the striker after being rebuffed in their bid to sign Edinson Cavani from Napoli.
'The battle for his signature could run to the end of the transfer window with the England star costing £25million,' claim the Mirror.
'But Rooney will have to demand a transfer. Only then will the Old Trafford hierarchy consider reviewing their position.'
Although United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward reiterated that the club "won't be selling" Rooney, it appears Chelsea is the forward's likely destination should he repeat his desire to move clubs.
SPURS STRUGGLING TO FUND BENTEKE BID
Quick line from the Sunday People now, who claim that Spurs' move for Christian Benteke is on the rocks as Daniel Levy looks to raise funds by shifting Emmanuel Adebayor.
Adebayor has been linked with a £6million move to Besiktas, but despite the Turkish club offering to match his £100k-a-week wages, the striker is digging his heels in for a better offer.
Aston Villa have insisted that Benteke won't be sold for anything less than £25million and it's thought they will reject any part-exchange proposals from Spurs.
