MOYES WATCHES BENTEKE
Well, we don't know for sure that he was watching Christian Benteke - this column would be unsurprised if he was actually scouting Alan Hutton - but David Moyes turned up to watch Scotland lose to Belgium on Friday night and the Daily Mirror has made the not-inconsiderable leap to an interest in the Aston Villa striker. In fact, Alan Nixon writes that 'Manchester United boss David Moyes wants Aston Villa's Belgian 'beast' Christian Benteke to be his next No.9'.
But haven't United already got a rather good striker already? Never fear because Nixon has already thought of that. 'Robin van Persie, 30, is still the main man, but the Dutchman cannot go on forever,' he writes. Nailed on.
O'NEILL FAVOURITE FOR IRELAND JOB
Even Giovanni Trapattoni is now admitting that his days as Ireland coach are numbered, and it seems that the FAI have a clear idea who they want to replace him. Or at least the Daily Mail have a clear idea who the FAI want to replace him.
'O'Neill, who has been out of work since he was sacked by Sunderland in March, is understood to be the FAI's preferred choice to eventually replace Trapattoni when he does go. Former internationals Roy Keane and Chris Hughton, and ex-manager and captain Mick McCarthy are also in the frame,' reads their report.
DI CANIO FUMING
Paolo Di Canio is the overhwleming favourite to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job and the chances of that happening are increasing by the day. Today's Daily Mirror brings the news that his first-chioce Sunderland side were soundly beaten 3-1 by the Under-21s.
According to the MIrror: 'Di Canio was so incensed by the performance that he went over the game in detail afterwards - and also told all the players not to mention the match had even happened.'
