BARCA TO TARGET WILSHERE
Just as everything seemed to be coming up Milhouse for Arsenal this season, the Daily Star manage to put a spanner in the works. A rather tenuous guess of a spanner, but a spanner nonetheless.
The paper use a story from Mundo Deportivo in suggesting that Wilshere is the Catalan giants' principal target to replace Xavi and Iniesta, who the Star claim are 'in the twilight of their careers'. Iniesta is only 29, actually, but don't let that worry you.
No quotes, no discussed possible fee and no thoughts on timescale. Let's file this under guesswork.
SPURS CLOSE IN ON CROATIAN MIDFIELDER
Just as Spurs fans finally get over the loss of footballing dreamboat Luka Modric to Real Madrid, they get the news that their club are prepared to offer £17million to Dinamo Zagreb for Alen 'the new Modric' Halilovic.
The Daily Express claim that the 17-year-old 'wonderkid' or 'starlet' (they really are using all of the cliches) was wanted by Spurs in the summer and was close to sealing a £10m move. Given that Daniel Levy is now prepared to up his offer to £17m, as the Daily Express believe, indicates just how keen they are on the Croatian.
£17million does seem rather a lot for a player with less than 30 league games played, if you ask me, but then I'm an old cynic.
EVRA AU REVOIR NEXT SUMMER
Given the sexy noises and fluttery eyelashes that his manager David Moyes made at Leighton Baines this summer, it is perhaps no surprise that Patrice Evra has made insinuations that he might look to leave Manchester United at the end of the season.
The Daily Mirror quote Evra (in an interview whilst on international duty) discussing the lack of a new contract.
"I'm not at all concerned. It is not that Manchester United do not want me to sign a new contract. Manchester United would like me to finish my career there, but this is something personal."
Whilst there would be plenty of interest in Evra as a free transfer, it would seem that Monaco would use their financial muscle to push to the front of that particular queue.
