Leighton Baines is Man United's 'only realistic target', Jose not asking for anyone in January, Big Sam in trouble...

Lordy. This is not going to appease too many Manchester United fans. David Moyes claims they 'understand the bigger picture' but we cannot imagine they're going to be too chuffed with a Daily Mirror back-page headline of 'MOYES: NO PANIC BUYS'. They claim that Leighton Baines 'remains United's only realistic target when the transfer window re-opens on January 1'.

Here's what Moyes had to say after Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle: "In any transfer window you don't want to be bringing in a full batch of players, so I think there's a period of time that it takes. The last one was a difficult one after just joining the club, so we've got a window in January where, if we think if it's right for the club, we'll do so.

"If not, we'll look again in the summer. This club is always looking to bring in the best talent and that won't change. I don't think I'll feel under pressure personally to do it [buy in January] as I'll try to do the right things. I tend to take my time and try to assess what are the best talents to bring in. You can see that from the players I brought in at Everton."

Jose Mourinho admits he does not have the perfect squad but he's not going to Roman Abramovich with a Christmas list, despite recurring links with Radamel Falcao and various other strikers.

"Of course we want the best possible results but I am not waiting for players, I am not asking for players. This is a period for the club and this is a period of my team where we have to try and improve the players we have and try to build a future," said Mourinho. "It is my squad. For good and for bad it is my squad. Of course it is not the perfect squad but it is my squad and I work with them until the last day."

These quotes have obviously not filtered through to the Daily Mirror, who claim that 'Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho us ready to buy French bad boy centre-half Kurt Zouma in a £10million window deal'. Why is he a bad boy? He's in the middle of a ten-match ban for a horror tackle, apparently.

'Sam Allardyce is facing a race against time to keep his West Ham United job,' says the Daily Telegraph. They believe their next game against Sunderland is key - defeat would see the Black Cats move to within two points of the Hammers. They are desperate to avoid a repeat of three years ago when they stuck with Avram Grant and were eventually relegated.

Everton are moving ahead of West Ham in the race to sign £2million-rated Iceland striker Alfred Finnbogason from Heerenveen - and the Toffees could allow Nikica Jelavic to move on in January. may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

Please Stop Telling Us What To Think

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
