ARSENAL CHASE COSTA

Arsenal's hunt for a new striker has taken an interesting turn, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Gunners want Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa.

The 25-year-old has started the season in blistering form, notching 17 goals in 16 La Liga matches so far, and was recently called up to the Spain squad before having to withdraw through injury.

'Arsenal are continuing to watch Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa, with the Brazilian goal machine carrying a £32million release clause,' report the Mail.

'Gunners scouts will travel to Atletico's two games this week against Sant Andreu and Levante, but it is thought the north London club do not wish to stretch to the 25-year-old's release clause.'

The Mail also add an intriguing line about Arsene Wenger viewing Javier Hernandez as a possible alternative.

PREM CLUBS EYE RANOCCHIA

Chelsea, Spurs, Man United and Arsenal are set to enter a good old-fashioned tug-of-war for Internazionale centre-back Andrea Ranocchia, according to the Daily Star.

The 25-year-old Italy international has impressed in Inter's encouraging start to the season, but it's thought that the Serie A side could struggle to hold on to the defender.

'According to reports in Italy, Blues boss Jose Mourinho is hoping to bring in Ranocchia, 25, in January as he makes plans for the eventual exit of David Luiz,' report the Star.

'Ranocchia recently played down talks of a January move to Chelsea, being quoted as saying: "Many silly things have been written about me, that I am unhappy and I want to leave."

'"I am just thinking about this shirt and paying back the fans for the affection they have for me."'

Despite Ranocchia's claims, the Star report that he is delaying over a new contract at the San Siro and could depart in January.

MICHU WANTS ASPAS FOR SWANSEA

It's fair to say that Iago Aspas' £7million move to Liverpool hasn't gone to plan so far, but Michu is hoping his compatriot can revive his fortunes with a loan move to Swansea.

"We (the Welsh club's Spanish players) are hoping he can come here on loan. It would be a pleasure to play with him. Iago has had injuries, but he has quality. He deserves to play in the Premier League," said Michu.

"He has been unlucky. At Liverpool, they have Luis Suarez and (Daniel) Sturridge, who have scored a lot of goals. Suarez is, along with Diego Costa and others, one of the best strikers in Europe."

The Swans were interested in signing Aspas in the summer, but were pipped to his signature by Liverpool.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
