Porto star flirts with London, Sandro dismisses Serie A rumours and Pepe Mel to be appointed at WBA...

Jackson Martinez was rather overlooked this summer in favour of the likes of Neymar, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani, but the Porto striker has piped up before the January transfer window to speak of his love of all things Premier League.

The Daily Star use quotes from the Colombian in which he flutters his eyelashes in the direction of Stamford Bridge and the Emirates.

"Where would I like to play?" Martinez said.

"When I was a child I rooted for Chelsea and Arsenal.

"I think the best championships are La Liga, the Premier League and Bundesliga, which has grown much in recent years."

Given that Martinez has scored 126 goals in his last 135 league games, one can rather imagine both Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho may well blow some kisses right back.

After the departure of Andre Villas-Boas, there have been a number of rumours suggesting that Sandro's time at White Hart Lane may be drawing to a close after significant interest from Serie A, but the player himself has moved to scotch such chatter.

The Daily Mirror rolls out the quotes, which include the textbook 'of course it's nice to be appreciated' line.

"I have heard that Inter and Roma want me but I'm happy here at Spurs. I have had no concrete contact with anyone and nor do I want any, although, of course, it is nice to be appreciated."

"Of course we still want to win the Premier League. For now, though, the real goal is a place in next season's Champions League. I felt for Andre but everyone knows that in football it is results that matter."

So there.

West Brom's search for a new boss has gone rather quiet of late, and it's now a fortnight since Steve Clarke was told to clear his desk. We would advise the appointment of Neil Lennon, but that's largely because we have some gold coins on the Northern Irishman.

The Daily Telegraph, however, go rather large this morning on news that former Real Betis manager Pepe Mel is the likely candidate for the role, which would lie somewhere between intriguing and a right rollicking shock.

The paper claim that Mel (a perfect name for tight tabloid headlines, we fear) has been interviewed by the Baggies, and is set to agree to an 18-month deal after the weekend.
