Wenger wants to turn Draxler into RvP, new deal for Baines, Capoue off already, Aspas to leave on loan and...

The question of whether Arsenal really need another attacking midfield type is answered by The Daily Mirror this morning.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves; firstly, they say that Arsene Wenger is looking to bring Julian Draxler to Arsenal in a £35million-ish deal, but might have to wait until the summer to do so.

And to those wondering why they need someone like Draxler, the answer apparently is that Wenger wants to turn him into a striker. Or 'the new Robin van Persie', according to the Mirror.

The Mirror reports: 'Wenger sees major potential in converting the 20-year-old Draxler from an attacking midfielder to a centre-forward.

'In 2004, Wenger bought van Persie - then a wide player and attacking midfielder - from Feyenoord and transformed him into an out-and-out goalscorer who has become one of the most lethal strikers in the world.'

The Daily Express reports that Everton are attempting to head Manchester United off at the pass when it comes to Leighton Baines, by giving their left-back a new contract.

According to the paper, Everton are 'increasingly confident' that Baines will sign a new contract at Goodison Park, despite continuing interest from United and David Moyes.

The Express claims: 'Talks on a new deal have been quietly ongoing since the summer when Everton repeatedly rebuffed bids from Manchester United for the England left-back.

'Baines has just under 18 months remaining on his contract, but manager Roberto Martinez is hopeful he will finalise an extension in the coming weeks.'

More of this stuff, then.

The Daily Star reports that Manchester United want Paul Pogba back, but Paul Pogba doesn't want Manchester United back.

Apparently if he does leave Juventus then PSG will be first in line for the midfielder, and the Star claims:

'Moyes has been told by United's owners the Glazers that money is no object, but the Scot knows he cannot compete with PSG when it comes to a bidding war.

'To make matters worse Pogba, 20, has told friends that if Juve did decide to cash in on him he would prefer to return to France and join PSG instead of going back to United.'

Sadface Moyes.

One to file under 'that's gone well' - according to a number of papers, Spurs could be about to take a £1.5million hit on Etienne Capoue, just a few months after buying him.

Apparently Tim Sherwood isn't too keen on the Frenchman, and Napoli are preparing a bid of around £6.5million, according to The Times, after paying £8million for him in the summer.

Add that to Lewis Holtby apparently on his way as well, and Sherwood is...erm...making his mark on the Spurs squad.

And joining Holtby and Capoue in that particular bin is Iago Aspas, who according to The Daily Mirror is wanted back in Spain.

The paper reports that Real Betis have joined Valencia in sniffing around the forward, and will look to take him on loan this month at some point.

The Mirror rather charitably says Aspas has 'struggled to make an impact' since joining Liverpool from Celta Vigo in the summer. That's certainly one way to put it.

Meanwhile, The Daily Express claims Liverpool have joined the chase for Porto midfielder Fernando - who signed a new deal last month.

Manchester City have made a fresh move for Porto's highly-rated defender Eliaquim Mangala...Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood is keen on Nottingham Forest's promising keeper Karl Darlow...Sunderland manager Gus Poyet will have to pay £6.5million to secure the signing of Ignacio Scocco...Rene Meulensteen has admitted West Ham have rejected a £4million bid from Fulham to buy Ravel Morrison...Galatasaray are eyeing up a £5million deal for Stoke's Charlie Adam.
