United roll back the years to move for Lucas Moura? And Marek Hamsik? Exodus at Southampton & pettiness at Spurs...

UNITED AFTER LUCAS MOURA?
Wait...it's...it's 18 months ago. Kenny Dalglish is still in charge of Liverpool. People still thought Fernando Torres might get...like...good again. Joe Hart was one of the best goalkeepers in the world. And Manchester United were sniffing around Lucas Moura.

The Daily Star reports that the last of those nostalgia trips here once again, but in truth there's a massive scoop of 2+2=5 stuff here, based on David Moyes watching a PSG game recently.

The paper claims Moyes was scouting Moura as part of his lovely little Euro road trip which saw him take in about 52 games in four days, reporting:

'The Manchester United boss travelled to Paris to watch Moura in action against Bordeaux earlier this week.

'Moyes has been scouring Europe looking at potential targets and believes playmaker Moura would be a huge success at Old Trafford.

'But it remains to be seen if PSG are willing to sell Moura and if United's valuation of the 21-year-old matches theirs.'

The paper also reckons that Moyes was looking at Javier Pastore but prefers Moura.

Believe what you like, of course, but the story would hold a little more weight if they knew PSG's game was in Bordeaux, not Paris.

MAREK HAMSIK TOO?
Also in The Daily Star is word that was knocking around on Wednesday about United making a move for one of Rafa's boys.

Marek Hamsik, specifically, with the Star citing 'reports in Italy', suggesting that Moyes could be in for the Napoli man 'as an alternative to Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal'.

That Hamsik is a totally different sort of player to both of those men is seemingly not especially relevant.

EXODUS AT SOUTHAMPTON?
So what of Southampton? The morning papers are preaching doom, doom, doom, and claim that not only could Mauricio Pochettino follow Nicola Cortese out the door, but half their players might as well.

The Times claims Rickie Lambert is the favourite to do one, as West Ham have made a £7million offer for the striker and to double his wages, but Luke Shaw could be gone as well.

The Daily Mail reports: 'Shaw, who decided to stay last summer despite interest from Chelsea, is wanted by Manchester City and Liverpool.

'Liebherr values him at an astonishing £30m and will sell if a club comes in with a bid.'

And The Daily Star reckons Chelsea have opened the bidding there at £21million.

The Star also reckons this could see Jay Rodriguez go to Liverpool.

HOLTBY NOT GOING TO SCHALKE
This is entertainingly petty.

The Daily Mirror reports that Spurs won't sell Lewis Holtby back to Schalke, because they fear that would mean Schalke could then sell Julian Draxler to Arsenal.

The paper claims: 'Spurs tried in vain last summer to delay the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid after realising the Gunners were lining up a move for the Spaniards' odd-man-out-to-be Mesut Ozil.

'The Germany midfielder DID join Arsenal for a record £42.5million and has inspired their impressive title challenge.'

Even if that's not true, we'd like it to be.

AND THE REST...
Fulham will have to DOUBLE their offer to £8million if they want to land West Ham star Ravel Morrison...Liverpool and Manchester City have been offered Ajax winger Ricardo Kishna...Liverpool are in pole position to sign highly-rated Udinese midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu...Stoke are hopeful of finalising the signing of American striker Juan Agudelo, once they have found a club who can take him on loan...Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is ready to snap up striker Modibo Maiga from former employers West Ham...Rafael Benitez wants to bring Michael Essien to Napoli after a move for his Chelsea team-mate John Obi Mikel was rejected...Hull last night had a bid of £7million accepted for West Brom striker Shane Long...Arsenal and Newcastle United have made offers for Nottingham Forest starlet Jamal Lascelles...Porto midfielder Steven Defour is holding out for a bid from Spurs before deciding whether to join Aston Villa.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
