INTER IN FOR TORRES
Doozy of a story in The Daily Mail, who report that Inter are looking at one Fernando Torres.
Apparently the Italian club are 'plotting' a summer move for the Chelsea striker, and are casually stroking a pile of notes totalling the £20million that will be asked for the Spaniard.
The paper reports: 'Inter's new owner, Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir insists he will not waste millions on rebuilding the team but he backed manager Walter Mazzarri in January by funding a £17m swoop for Hernanes.
'Representatives from the Italian club were in dialogue with Chelsea during the January transfer window, asking about Juan Mata and offering Fredy Guarin in return. No deals were struck but contact was strengthened and the Italians could return for Torres.'
The paper nominates Diego Costa, Radamel Falcao and Mario Balotelli as potential targets for Chelsea, but says they will need to bring in a fair chunk of cash from somewhere to pay for one of those players.
ARSENAL ASK ABOUT MONTOLIVO
According to The Daily Express...well, according to an agent quoted by The Daily Express, Arsenal are looking at AC Milan midfielder Ricardo Montolivo.
But enough of our waffle - here's Giovanni Branchini to explain.
He said: "Milan have had a difficult season so far and I think I can say that Riccardo Montolivo has been one of the brightest notes. He became a fixture of the Rossoneri and was even given the captain's armband as proof. He is very happy with the club to which he belongs, and the club and fans are very satisfied with him.
"An extension? He has a contract until June 2016, so it is not a priority to talk about an extension at this time. That's a discussion we'll have, I think, next year.
"Has there been interest from other clubs? There have been tentative enquiries from Atletico Madrid, [Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen] Klopp and Arsenal, to name a few.
"All were trying to ascertain whether the 'path' to Montolivo was feasible. At the moment, however, I feel it would be very difficult for the player to leave Milan, precisely because of what I said before."
LIVERPOOL IN FOR PAREJO
This was mentioned in yesterday's Gossip, but The Daily Star repeats the theory this morning that Liverpool are keen on Valencia midfielder Dani Parejo.
The 24-year-old did have a rather iffy loan spell at QPR as a youngster, but his superb form in Spain has 'not gone unnoticed.'
The paper claims: 'According to reports in Spain, Rodgers is keen to bring Parejo to Anfield in the summer to bolster his midfield. But Rodgers faces a tough task to convince Valencia boss Juan Antonio Pizzi to part with Parejo.
'Pizzi is desperate to keep Parejo, who has also enjoyed spells with Real Madrid and Getafe, at the Mestalla and will demand a large fee to stave off interest from Liverpool.'
NEW DEAL FOR NASRI?
Quick line from the Express, who claim that Manchester City are set to open talks with Samir Nasri over a new contract.
Well, actually, they simply carry quotes from Nasri himself to that effect.
He said: "I know talks are planned. When you are happy somewhere, I do not see why you should need a change of scenery. My aim is to win the Champions League in the next few years.
"I chose this club three years ago to win trophies. I won the League in my first season, I lost the FA cup final in my second season, and now we have won the Capital One Cup. It will give us confidence in the Premier League and FA Cup.
"From the first training session, I had a discussion and Pellegrini told me exactly what he wanted from me. I really like the way he talks to me and made me feel important again and after that I go out on the pitch and try everything for him because he trusts you so you have to do everything for him."
