UNITED AGREE KROOS DEAL AND WANT ROBBEN
The Daily Mail aren't holding back on their Manchester United news this morning, reporting that a deal has been done with Bayern Munich to sign Toni Kroos. The paper claim such a deal was struck when David Moyes was still in charge, and that new manager Louis van Gaal has given his approval for the move to go ahead.
Van Gaal was the coach that gave Kroos his chance at Bayern, and with a fee for the Germany international reported to be as low as £20million, it would seem a pretty excellent start to United's summer.
That isn't the Mail's only claim, however. The paper also reckon that Van Gaal would like to bring Arjen Robben to Old Trafford. Robben recently signed a new contract to stay at the AllianzArena, but the paper don't seem to let that bother them. He is also now 30. Hmmm.
In better news, I've just become a millionaire after I enrolled five years ago on a 'get £1 every time Robben is linked with United scheme'. Champagne on me.
CITY IN FOR BENATIA
It appeared that Manchester City's signing of Eliaquim Mangala was a done deal this summer, but with talks of the player stalling now arising, it appears that City are keeping their central defensive options open.
The Sun claim that Mehdi Benatia is the next man on the shopping list, the 27-year-old Roma defender impressing just about everyone with his performances in Serie A this season.
Benatia only moved to Rome last summer from Udinese in a €13.5million deal and five-year contract, and played 37 times for the Giallorossi last season, scoring five goals from centre-back.
The Daily Mail actually reported that Barcelona also wanted Benatia a few days ago, and they mentioned a possible £25million fee. That is presumably similar to what City would have to pay to bring the Moroccan to Manchester.
LIVERPOOL IN FOR PEDRO
Big news from Anfield, where the Daily Mirror report that Liverpool's hierarchy are preparing to make a fairly audacious bid for Barcelona star Pedro. Furthermore, it appears that Barca are prepared to sell - if the price is right.
Pedro has now somehow reached the age of 26 (he always seems about 22 to us), but with his place in the Barcelona starting line-up not always guaranteed after the arrival of Neymar, the Spain international could look to move on.
It would only be right to run through the trophies that Pedro has won by the age of 26, mainly because it's a disgustingly glittery list: 4 x La Ligas, 2 x Copa Del Rey, 4 x Supercopa de España, 2 x Champions League, 2 x UEFA Super Cup, 2 x FIFA Club World Cup, 1 x World Cup, 1 x European Championship. That's the kind of winning experience that Brendan Rodgers would love to bring to Liverpool, not to mention Pedro's versatility across the forward line.
