ENTER SHAQIRI
'Liverpool appear to be in a two-horse race with Bayern Munich for the services of Xherdan Shaqiri, with the Swiss international set to choose between a new deal at the Allianz and a switch to Anfield,' say Metro, who presumably read it on Thursday morning on Twitter like the rest of us.

It seems that Shaqiri has a choice to make - stay at Bayern, hope he starts more than ten Bundesliga games next season and wait for Franck Ribery to get older, or move to Liverpool, where he will go straight into the first team. What's odd is that he has no other real suitors after a very good World Cup for Switzerland.

WHERE NEXT FOR HUNTELAAR?
There's a theory that he's just playing sily beggars because he wants a new contract at Schalke, but reports in Voetbal International in Holland suggest that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is a target for both Arsenal and Liverpool. Arsenal, we can see, but would Liverpool really sign Huntelaar AND Rickie Lambert?

Anyway, this is what Huntelaar told Bild: "Regarding rumours about Liverpool, it'd only be fair to speak to Schalke first. I've talked to Schalke about an extension for a while. After the World Cup I am having a holiday. Then I will speak to them again."

MAN CITY BID FOR MANGALA
Not only have they bid for Eliaquim Mangala but they have had their £32m bid accepted by Porto, apparently. That's the claim of French newspaper L'Equipe, who say that the deal is far from done because the French international might actualy prefer to join Chelsea. Hmmm. We think a French international who can't get in the French team might not actually be worth £32m.

AND THE REST
Toulouse have rejected QPR's £5million bid for right-back Serge Aurier...Iker Muniain has extended his contract with Athletic Bilbao until 2017...Borussia Monchengladbach are set to sign Thorgan Hazard on loan from Chelsea...Bayern Munich are being linked with Costa Rica keper Keylor Navas...Petr Cech's agent today confirmed Paris Saint Germain and Monaco have made an enquiry about signing the keeper from Chelsea and is not sure whether he still has a future at Stamford Bridge...Manchester City have no intention of selling centre-back Matija Nastasic...

...Young Manchester City centre-back Karim Rekik is a loan target for French side Marseille and PSV, where he spent last season on loan...Everton are facing the prospect a transfer tug-of-war with West Ham over highly-rated Scotland left back Andrew Robertson...Sunderland are ready to cut their losses and offload striker Danny Graham for £1million...Swansea City have made it clear that Sunderland target Ashley Williams is not for sale, according to the defender's agent...

...Fulham's pursuit of Ross McCormack has been dealt a blow after Leeds United reiterated their desire to keep the wantaway frontman...Dejan Lovren is expected to be a no-show when he is due back for pre-season later this month, as he attempts to force a move away from Southampton...Queens Park Rangers are the latest club to be linked with a move for Nottingham Forest's highly-rated Jamaal Lascelles...Watford have confirmed that they have rejected a bid from Burnley for striker Troy Deeney...Doncaster Rovers have revived their interest in striker Ishmael Miller.

I look at Shaqiri and see a Simpsons character. Also, you can't judge quality by whether or not they made it into the latest French national squad. That is one odd institution indeed.

PSG were probably not interested and he is stuck with no cake and no vacation. @Jay_D> Surely you jest about FFP being real, right? All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
