Ehiogu hopes for Rooney rule

Former England defender Ugo Ehiogu has welcomed the possible introduction of a 'Rooney Rule' in English football.

The PFA and Football League have this week pushed forward their own version of American football's 'Rooney Rule'.

If adopted, the Coaching Fair Play plan will ensure ethnic and minority candidates will be interviewed for managerial and coaching positions.

Former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough stopper Ehiogu, who is due to complete his UEFA A coaching licence this summer, hopes it will prove a breakthrough legislation.

"I think there are five black managers all in total, if you compare that to 30 per cent playing the game - you could say that 5 to 10 per cent of those are in coaching or involved in coaching, but it is not really representative and you could say it is under-represented as well," said Ehiogu - who is currently coaching at Tottenham's Academy.

"So, it is good - just to open up that process and to give someone the opportunity to put forward their CV and to put forward their plans and ideas for managing that club, let's make no mistake about it there will always be a front runner for a job and there is no guarantee you will get that job, but you might discover a gem."

Ehiogu himself has agreed a coaching role with England's Under-20 squad ahead of the World Under-20 World Cup this summer.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be involved, the call came as a welcome surprise," he said.

"It should be a great experience and I hope that everyone can make the most of it, enjoy it and try to come back with the trophy.

"I've done a couple of prep courses and I start my A Licence in May, so it's something that I'm looking forward to it.

"I'm fortunate that I've been able to get some experience and regular work with Spurs, but there's a massive amount of knowledge to pick up and use."

All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
