Les Blues, ranked fifth in the FIFA world rankings, are one of the most formidable teams in women's football and have not been beaten by England since 1974.

New boss Sampson, who was appointed boss of England in December, has overseen three straight victories in the competition over Italy, Finland and Canada, and he believes the tournament's deciding fixture will be a perfect benchmark for his team.

"It's an open book for both teams to start to write a new destiny," he told FATV.

"It can only be a good barometer for us because France are one of the top nations in the world. But France haven't beaten this new England team.

"The objective is to go eye to eye and see where we're at. We've got a new way of playing, so it's a really exciting time for us to go into the game and be positive.

"If we're not good enough to win the football match then, to be honest, that's where we expect to be at the moment.

"But if we go into it and we show a positive mentality then I think we'll give ourselves a good chance."

he thing is, footballers are role models, and children are influenced by them. I watched the Chelsea game with my 6 year old, and at school the next day she stamped on Emre Can.

et again Barcelona try to convince the world that they only play the most virtuous of football. I've never seen a team so willing and able to dish out lumps but feel so self-righteous that no opposition player should ever have the audacity to tackle them.

d love to see a United v Liverpool FA cup final. It would certainly fit the narrative. Obv I'd want the ending to be one of an O.G. and tears as he collects his runner-up medal.
