Craig Dawson: Set to join Bolton on loan

Craig Dawson: Set to join Bolton on loan

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman is hopeful of completing the loan signing of West Brom defender Craig Dawson by the weekend.

Team GB Olympic squad member Dawson has long been rumoured to be a transfer target for Wanderers, and Freedman confirmed a deal is close after holding talks with the player on Wednesday.

"Craig Dawson's a target," he said. "We've spoken to West Brom, Craig spoke to me - I had a chance to speak to the young guy yesterday.

"He expressed how delighted he is that we're interested in him and that he would like to come to us.

"He had five or six teams he could have gone to and he's chosen to come to Bolton, which is fantastic - that's the sort of players that I would like to sign.

"Right now it's with the guys in the suits putting the paperwork together and hopefully by the weekend we should be looking forward to Craig joining us."

Freedman wants to add further new faces to his squad and, ideally, they will be in a similar mould to England Under-21 centre-back Dawson.

He added: "There's one or two things that I'm trying my best to get but I think it's very disrespectful for me to name names of fellas at other clubs.

"We're working very hard to get the right types in. I want the right player to come in here, not the guy that's been there and done it - we've got a few of them already here.

"I need to try and get the balance of the squad right and get talent in here that wants to express itself."
