Arsene Wenger: Preparing his side to face Everton

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger feels loan deals should be treated just like permanent transfers - but has no intention of boosting his squad with any short-term options in January.

The Barclays Premier League leaders are set to face Everton on Sunday, with the Toffees reaping the benefit of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who has so far scored eight goals since joining on a season-long move.

However, regulations will not allow the powerful 20-year-old Belgian to face his Stamford Bridge team-mates. Wenger feels that such deals should be all or nothing.

"Once you are on loan, it should be a transfer - you play for the club. You cannot play for the club only in 19 games and not against another club," said Wenger.

"If Lukaku didn't play for Everton somebody else would play. I don't make a fuss of that, and it is our performance that will dictate the result on Sunday - not only Lukaku. He is a good player, but the rules are the rules and we have to accept the rules.

"If you ask me my opinion, I am not against loans, but you should be capable to play against everybody.

"Even if you want to loan a player and you said tomorrow you cannot do it any more, you always find people can sell a player for one year with a buy-back clause and get the player back, but (at least) then he can play against everybody, that would be a bit more normal.

"You can always turn the rule."

Wenger feels not allowing players to tackle their parent clubs leaves an area of uncertainty over commitment.

"When I arrived you could decide that when you loan the player he could play against you or not," he said.

"We had the case with (Jermaine) Pennant as well when he went to Leeds. I allowed him to play against us because at that time you could decide.

"Now, they have decided that you don't have the right, which is a little bit questioning the integrity of the players."

Wenger has been urged to strengthen the squad when the transfer window reopens, as Arsenal look to sustain a long-overdue assault on the championship.

Forward back-up for leading frontman Olivier Giroud would seem to be the most pressing area of concern, although the Gunners boss continues to stress the return to fitness of the likes of Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski - not to mention Nicklas Bendtner, who scored his first Arsenal goal since March 2011 in the 2-0 win over Hull on Wednesday night - means he is not short of attacking options.

Whatever transpires over the new year window, Wenger insists he has no interest in temporary deals, despite trying to bring in Demba Ba from Chelsea in a similar move on the last transfer deadline day.

"At the moment, no, but maybe we can get one or two young players out on loan for the possibility to play," he said.

"In England you have no feeder club like in some countries. It is not the tradition, so you find another way to give competition."

All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
