Current boss Cesare Prandelli has hinted that he could be set to return to club management following the showpiece event in Brazil, leading to much speculation regarding potential replacements.

Pioli has been at the helm of Bologna for almost two years and he says that, although he is flattered by the talk, he is committed to his current role.

"Sure, I've heard these rumours with attention," he told Sky Italia.

"Being taken into consideration for such an important possibility is good. I'd feel adequate to the task myself.

"But in my plans for the medium and long term, I have other aims for my professional growth, in particular here in Bologna."

Japan manager Alberto Zaccheroni is another name who has been linked with the post, but he also remained coy about whether it would be a possibility.

"How does it feel to be linked with the Italy bench? Let me finish the World Cup with Japan as that is all I'm thinking about right now," said the former AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Lazio chief.

"The rumours are flying around, but it's better to talk about concrete things. Today I am the coach of Japan.

"I do not feel like a candidate as I am focusing on what I need to do, which is to take part in the World Cup."

f I were Manuel Pellegrini I would keep quiet and hope the Board didn't notice City not winning anything. If he isn't sacked I'd be astonished.
