Jones is available for today's Championship clash with Peterborough at Ewood Park and bolsters a Rovers engine room hit by injuries to Lee Williamson and Dickson Etuhu in recent weeks.

"I'm delighted to be here, Blackburn is a massive club," the 28-year-old told Blackburn's official website, www.rovers.co.uk. "I want to come here and make an impact so I'm really looking forward to it.

"I thought my opportunities would be limited at Wigan for the remainder of the season and this chance arose so I wanted to take it.

"It is a good team and one that I want to try and get in and do well. It has been doing well recently, there are a lot of quality players (at) the football club and hopefully there'll be opportunities for me to come in and help the football club achieve their aim this season."

Jones, a product of Manchester United's youth academy, moved to Derby from Old Trafford in January 2007 for a fee in excess of £1million following a successful loan spell.

A year and a half later he joined Wolves, once again for a seven-figure sum, and went on to make 76 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight times.

Jones has not found the net since making the switch to Wigan before the start of last season but boasts 29 Barclays Premier League outings under Roberto Martinez at the DW Stadium.

Yesterday afternoon, Blackburn signed winger Cameron Stewart on loan from Hull and Jones' capture takes the number of new arrivals brought in by manager Michael Appleton this month to six.
