McNaughton, 31, is Cardiff's longest-serving professional and could feature in up to five Sky Bet Championship fixtures, up to Wanderers' October 26 clash at home to Ipswich Town.

McNaughton began his career with Aberdeen before making 202 first-team appearances for the Dons ahead of moving to south Wales on a free transfer in July 2006.

Comfortable at right or left-back and in the centre of defence the Scot was voted as the club's player of the season for the 2010/11 campaign.

He is now in his eight season as a Bluebird but has played only one and a half games of the current season, both in the Carling Cup, after 28 appearances in the Welsh club's promotion to the Premier League last campaign.
