Robert Green - QPR
The England international goalkeeper could be forgiven for feeling sorry for himself after spending the best part of three months sat on the bench watching Julio Cesar be kept busy in the QPR goal. But when the Brazilian was forced off at the interval against Sunderland, Green responded with an impressive display. His superb save from Steven Fletcher helped the Hoops to a deserved clean sheet and point.
Matthew Lowton - Aston Villa
Aston Villa's young guns are starting to look the real deal and none more so than their summer signing from Sheffield United. The 23-year-old right-back showed remarkable composure, using the ball well and playing his part in a second consecutive clean sheet for Paul Lambert's side when they beat Reading 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Ryan Nelsen - QPR
Harry Redknapp realises it will require strong characters in the dressing room and on the pitch if QPR are to dig themselves out of a tricky hole at the foot of the table. Having signed the 35-year-old New Zealand international while Tottenham boss in February, Redknapp knows Nelsen embodies those qualities and the defender was a towering presence in their clean sheet at Sunderland.
Matija Nastasic - Man City
Question marks were raised when Roberto Mancini chose to break up the successful partnership between Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott at the heart of the Manchester City defence. But the bemusement has given way to nods of approval as the Serbian youngster continues to impress and he can be well pleased with his role in City's 2-0 win at Wigan.
Danny Rose - Sunderland
The on-loan Tottenham man was part of the Sunderland back-four that kept a clean sheet against QPR on Tuesday evening. But he was also the Black Cats' most impressive attacking presence. He was the brightest spark for the home side and his all-action display provided some encouragement for the Stadium of Light crowd.
Marouane Fellaini - Everton
The big Belgian returned from suspension and played a huge part in Everton's point in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Goodison Park. Fellaini epitomised all that was good about hard-working Everton but also brought a significant amount of quality too. His curling effort in the first half brought the Toffees back on level terms.
Alexander Tettey - Norwich
The Ghana-born Norwegian joined the Canaries from Rennes in the summer and has made an immediate impact at the heart of Chris Hughton's team. Tettey is a real powerhouse and - while referee Mark Clattenburg was the focus for some - the midfielder was the real dominant figure on the pitch in Norwich's 1-1 draw at Southampton.
Barry Bannan - Aston Villa
Christian Benteke grabbed the goal that won Villa the game against Reading on Tuesday but it was Bannan that caught the eye with his work in midfield. The diminutive Scot was constantly involved in prompting the home side's attacks and showcased his superb range of passing in a fine display.
Pablo Hernandez - Swansea
Pablo Hernandez made his name as a right-winger with Valencia but in Swansea's impressive 3-1 win over West Brom on Wednesday the Spaniard did much of his best work on the left flank. Hernandez was a class apart during a first-half performance in which he played a role in all three of the Swans' goals.
Cameron Jerome - Stoke
Stoke boss Tony Pulis only introduced Jerome as a second-half substitute but the former Birmingham man helped turn the game on its head with a goal and an assist. Newcastle had looked to be on their way to a morale-boosting win but Jerome crossed for Jonathan Walters to head home an equaliser and then seized on a knockdown himself to win it for the Potters.
Gareth Bale - Tottenham
It takes some performance to get in the team of the week after finding the net with a calamitous own goal but that's exactly what the Welsh wizard produced in Spurs' 2-1 win against Liverpool. Bale's driving run and delicious delivery laid on the opening goal for Aaron Lennon before he doubled the lead with a devilish free-kick.
