The 37-year-old has agreed to link up with the French giants on a five-month contract, but will not be rushed into action.

Beckham is short on match practice having not taken part in a competitive fixture since claiming the MLS Cup with Los Angeles Galaxy at the start of December.

PSG are delighted to have him on board, with brand Beckham having taken hold of the French capital.

The Ligue 1 table-toppers will, however, be taking in a few more fixtures before they are ready to unleash the former England captain on domestic and European opponents.

Sporting director Leonardo said on Friday: "He will come with us to Valencia for the Champions League game the day before, but will not play.

"The idea is that he will start training on February 13."

Leonardo has also played down any fears regarding Beckham's ability to compete at the highest level following a five-year stint in the United States.

He added: "He is going to be a huge surprise for you."
