The Latics failed in a move for the former Celtic man during last month's transfer window with the deal falling through at the final minute.

However, Martinez is planning a fresh move for McGeady after admitting he is a big fan of the skilful wideman.

"It just wasn't meant to happen. For one reason or another, the deal broke down," said Martinez.

"I admire Aiden McGeady, he is a very talented footballer, he has got a big future. When you like a player, you always like a player."
