Arsene Wenger claims Arsenal are not far away from matching Bayern Munich - but accepts he will have to be "clever" to make them a force again.

I'm sorry but that's horse apples , Arsenal can match the salaries if they wish to , we have an American billionaire owner who sits on his arse and there have been no real signs that he's willing to get off it any time soon . The money is there and now I think there should be a realization that it needs to be put to some better use than left in the bank increasing with the interest or whatever , either we get solid investment next season or Arsenal needs a severe personnel shake up. Hopefully the Amorebieta talks are heading somewhere and they are just the beginning of an overhaul.

The problem for Wenger is simple. Even if he can get a top top player for a low transfer fee, that player won't come as Arsenals wage structure cannot accommodate his salary demands. Arsenal fans need to understand that Arsenal can pay the 30 mil it would take to buy a Hazzard like player, but they can't match the 150-200k salary Chelsea/City will offer him.

In addition Arsenal will continue to lose their top talent as player would hardly want to continue at Arsenal when they aren't winning anything and they are being offered half of what a City/United/Cheslea would offer them. Until that wage cap is modified there is little Arsenal can do to make Arsenal compete for the title and there is nothing his replacement will be able to do either.

Wenger is absolutely right in this article - Arsenal are not far away from competing and throwing money at a problem a la Man City will solve precious little either. He is also very stubborn and needs to get ruthless with about half of the squad (not first 11) who are not good enough to play for Arsenal and which are also overpaid. For a club with the fourth highest wages in the EPL, something has to change. For every player on £80k who is worth £160k and good enough to leave for a better club, 6 of the players on £45-60k (like Squillaci, Mannone, Santos, Fabianski, Djourou, Diaby) who are not good enough need replacing with 4 decent players on £25-35k. That way, Arsenal will finally have a motivated squad (if you're good enough, sunshine, you'll get paid) and not need to resort to Man City's dubious tactics. As an aside, Chelsea's success/failure can only be measured once all the foundation players on which their success has been built have left the club. Perhaps the same can be said of Man Utd ex Scholes, Giggs, etc (although I think SAF is a genius at adapting and developing his team to survive generations of players leaving).

If we find tomorrow a player of top, top, top quality, we will take him.", ie crap will come in unless i can get messi for 12 million while ignoring the cabayes, tiotes, bas, michus, lloris', dembeles etc of this world

This is my last post about my beloved Arsenal.I won't post again anything about Arsenal until Wenger gone. It hurts me too much to see what Wenger doing it to my club with his ego and lack of respect to himself and fans.We rant about things for last 8 years but nothing has changed and as long as he is in charge I believe we will be laughing stock of the rest of the football world.Wenger didn't go so I had to..Mental strength, my a@#e.
