So who will replace David Moyes as manager of Everton after his appointment as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor at Manchester United? Wigan's Robert Martinez heads the betting. Check out the latest odds

Everton failed to boost their UEFA Champions League qualification hopes over the weekend after suffering a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Norwich and are seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

However, the club are still in a position to qualify for the Europa League and also have a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals in their sights.

Moyes' side face Oldham Athletic at home in a fifth-round replay on Tuesday night, with Wigan Athletic awaiting the winners, and the Everton boss is ready for a defining period.

"I have always said we have had to be grafting at it constantly and grit it out all season, and that may be having an effect," said Moyes. "But we will get a second wind I think soon and kick on again.

"I'd say, 'Look at our situation'. How many clubs don't have anything to play for at this stage of the season? We have, we are still in a really good position.

"We are sixth in the table, we have a replay in the FA Cup at home to get into the quarter-finals.

"It is a big game for us, for the fans. I think we are in a period of big games, albeit not maybe the top teams, but there is a period of big games coming up.

"I think we are in a period of maybe what direction our season is going a little bit, so we have to look at that and see."

Whilst i realise what a great job David and Bill have done over the last 10 seasons, im starting to think its going stale. Ironically Arsenal are having a similar issue i feel. We are now struggling to defend set pieces and crosses, an area we have been so well drilled and strong up until this season. Also we have no 15goal striker because Jela cant hit a barn door this term! Moyes lack of intent in trying to bring in a couple in Jan is now realy hurting an already thin squad. Where is the talent comming tho from the academy Mr Moyes is so proud of|????

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!
