It is understood Roy Hodgson's men will take up residence at the five-star Windsor Atlantica when they head to Rio de Janeiro for their rematch with the World Cup hosts, which is expected to take place at the world-famous Maracana Stadium on June 2.

Providing it meets with expectations, England will request to stay there for the World Cup should they qualify.

England are presently behind Montenegro in their group and face a tricky trip to Podgorica next month.

The location could not be more different than the austere surroundings of Rustenburg, where Fabio Capello chose to stay for the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

The Football Association abandoned that policy for Euro 2012, preferring instead to base themselves in the centre of Krakow.

That turned out to be a positive move, although clearly, beach life in Rio will be somewhat busier.
