He's backed to the hilt by the authorities, and he ensured yet another English knock out, so i'm sure we'll see him again. It's not the decision, particularly, but the inconsistency in not keeping the same standards for the Spanish team players. Punch in the face < almost hurting someone in a sort-of-high challenge where you actually get the ball, for example. That's the problem. By the law, it was fine, its just that others weren't treated equally.

Take the EY out of Mr. Cakir's forename and you'll have some idea of how United fans feel about him.

I have a Turkish friend who says Cuneyt Cakir is card-happy in Turkey as well, and that he makes bad non-calls. But, mystifyingly, my friend still says the man is a good referee.

This guy is an idiot, quite clearly, however the rule makers are also idiots. So the goal keeper is allowed to punch the ball and if he misses a smacks someone like Vidic for instance in the head, that is ok, its not dangerous play, its perfectly legit. But if Nani raises his boot above waist height as he tries to control the ball and snags another players shirt then that is dangerous play and a straight red. Vidic was almost knocked out! What a load of cobblers. Football is a contact sport from the top down to grass roots. Ok, protect players but either protect them ALL or use a bit of common sense. Hence say this ref is an idiot and clearly full of his own self importance.

He won't referee an top English side in a big European cup match again, that will provide all the evidence contrary to his self deluded I am perfect in my job all my previous decisions were right. Thinks he is bigger than the game.We call them pedantic umpires in cricket. Sounds like this guy has an serious ego.

His reputation is now in tatters and he won't be assigned another big UEFA cup match involving an English team. If he is involved in refereeing a top four type English team again, he certainly will not be giving a red for nothing...I dare say it but England might declare war on Turkey if he does it again.

Clearly English is not his first language. Give the guy a break about use of the word 'perfectly'. The decision was harsh, but it is difficult to sympathise with United and SAF when pressuring officials is used as a legitimate tactic. SAF takes favorable referee decisions on the chin quite well too.

maybe he is right? In time, people will forget about it. However, if he thinks he did his job "perfectly" then he is deluded. By showing Arbeloa only a yellow for a thigh high challenge on Evra and not even showing any card to the Real keeper when he two fisted Vidic shows complete inconsistency. The thing is, when UEFA set the ref's for these games, they don't care of the outcome. They have been biased against the Premier LEague for such a long time. I just wonder will that bias transfer across to the German and Russian leagues now that they are money-rich? Or is it just an 'English' thing? We'll have to wait and see!
