Steven Gerrard is glad Liverpool proved they can beat a top Premier League side on Sunday but knows the Reds must maintain their standards.

solskjaer99 .. you're aware I did acknowledge Man Utd as the best team in the league yes? Are you also aware Liverpool fans (and many others) console ourselves by watching replays of Aguero's 95th-minute strike on the last day of last season? See - I can be awfully banal too :)

Yes, stringman, we're all gutted, if only there was some way of consoling ourselves. Oh wait, there is, we can look at the top of the table.

If any of you actually watched a plethora of Premier League games, instead of just the ones you cared about .. you'd realise that what Gerrard said is pretty spot on. Spurs and Liverpool have been playing the most attractive football over the last few months, while also creating a multitude of chances. Man Utd are obviously the 'best' team in the league, the table doesn't lie - but whoa, did you notice that liverpool and Spurs were the two teams that had just played, and Gerrard was speaking after said game. It was a loose comment about two teams playing really good football .. followed by a bunch of muppets who support other teams who have hurt egos that their teams weren't included in his praise. I think the common phrase is "jog on".

I believe MOTD 2 went by all games current form, not just premierleague form...

@zedsmith - I would rather play Arsenal, followed by Liverpool, followed by Spurs. But not because of form but because Arsenal have recently been less of a challenge for us. It doesn't matter if I think Arsenal are in better form or not, the fact is that the form guide says they are - they have taken 13 points from a possible 18, whereas Liverpool have taken 11. Naturally that could all change at the weekend; but as of this moment it is what it is. If Stevie had've just admitted that United are currently the best then I wouldn't have even bothered commenting on this story...

Thanks GVMUFC but I'll forego apologising ¿ I guess the point is it depends on which source you use (I went with MOTD2, maybe I should have known better). Having said that, if you think Arsenal are in better form than Liverpool then good luck to you. Equally if you disagree that Liverpool and Spurs (and United) are the form teams in the league then fair enough, but tell me, given a choice right now, would you rather play Spurs/Liverpool or Arsenal?

@solskjaer99 - Yeah mate, I`m sure he gives a sh*t what some no-mark United fan thinks of him in a comment section of a football website. You do realise that his comments are responses given to questions? I hardly think Steven Gerrard is going to respond to journalists "I dont want to comment because solskjaer99 might ridicule me"... what happens to the comments afterwards is out of his control, hence why footballers tend to spout the same old fence sitting bullsh1t day in day out, if they ever show the slightest bit of pride in a performance, or some optimism then their words are interpreted as "jibes" and "roars" then softarses like you feel inclined to react. You'll learn one day lad.

He needs to keep his mouth shut but we are definitely improving. Best in the league, definitely not, that is united. But we are on the up and may mount a challenge (for the top 4) next season.

It's just a comment by a player after a match.

solskjaer99.. classic Liverpool is the exact opposite of that, beating the bigger teams and slipping up against a team we should beat. The fact remains, when we play well we look excellent, but we've made far too many stupid mistakes that have cost us games / Europa league progress, that's been our major downfall. Yesterday Spurs experienced what we have a few times this season and Liverpool were handed a couple of slices of luck. That luck has been a long time coming!

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
