The Anfield board has been rewarded for funding the January arrivals of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, both of whom have contributed to a recent upturn in form.

And Rodgers' scouting team have been busy identifying players of similar stature ahead of further spending in the close season.

He told the club website: "It is quality we are after, not quantity. There is no doubt there is a natural rebuilding that will come with the likes of Jamie Carragher retiring. I am happy with the squad if I can then put another three or four quality players to it.

"We see Coutinho and Sturridge's quality in January, and if we bring in another three or four players of that quality and add that to what we have got then we have got a strong squad.

"I'm talking about two players in every outfield position and your three goalkeepers. Then below that having young players who can support that.

"There is a lot of terrific work going on behind the scenes with the scouting department getting lists together.

"Of course you have an ideal target, but you have to have three players and if one doesn't come off you have to be comfortable with the other two. We are much better placed now than we were last summer."

One player who could be on his way out in the summer - albeit on loan - is young Spanish winger Suso, whose last appearance came in the FA Cup third round.

Rodgers said: "Suso has been a very good cover player for us this season, the longer plan for him we have to look at.

"Does he actually have to go and play somewhere for a year and get experience? Does he need to show he can go and get goals and create goals and then we know what we have?".

More PR from Liverpool. Think about it, just announced massive losses, so you have no money, then its announced that ticket prices are going up, to try and make money. Throw the 'king of spin' out there and get him talking about '3 or 4 quality players', get the fans back onside. Facts are, Pool will be continuing their current recruitment policy of signing scraps and rejects and then simply talking them up, some will pay off like Sturridge (the step down has really benefitted him) and others wont like Carrol, Allen, Sahin etc. Some of the names being talked about on here are quite simply daft, you wont be playing CL football so you will only be signing those that no one else wants...just like now!
