adly this is inevitable. No club outside the top 4/5 can hang on to anyone who shows that kind of talent anymore. Might be best for them to get as much as they can now while his stock is high and start again. On the plus side lads, Grant Holt is still available.

@jamief72: Nobody is blaming the defeats on the players because they say we can get into Europe. We are blaming the players because they are rubbish. They need to realise that they are not a 'top 4' side and that there are a couple of other sides performing better than LFC who have more chance of the top 4. They should aim for winning the next match and take each game at a time and not count their chickens.

Too much talk about where to finish, not enough buckling down(ing). Of course for Polo hole maker @dereckrhyd it's a Y front creaming result.

This was a defeat we all saw coming after a week of Gerrard, Lucas and Downing saying Europe is within sight. These players need to learn it's actually winning matches on the pitch that counts not in decent sound bites. In a weekend that Spurs dropped points at home after a hard fought mid-week game, this was a massive opportunity missed. I hope they can now shut up and start playing football. Afterall, the pressure is off, they've blown it.

I think to say Allen is the worst signing 'in a long time' is a little unfair - remember Andriy Voronin, Jovanovic or Aquilani? He started the season really strongly - had 3-4 games where he kept the ball well, and knocked the passes around quickly and effectively... The problem is when he is not playing well, he doesn't offer much else. He is not great defensively, or going forward - so he really needs to be the cog in the machine that keeps us ticking over - when he is not, he looks like absolute bobbins. It was definitely a curious decision by Rodgers to start him over Henderson (who looks again to be out of favour) or Lucas - I think Rodgers wants to believe he can put anyone in the team and we don't miss a beat - but we are not at that level yet. If the game was so important, we really should have started our best 11 (which obviously doesn't include Allen) - so I think Rodgers needs to learn a lesson here, I know he wants to utilise the squad - but Tottenham slipped up again this weekend, and if we had won this game - we would have been 6 points behind 4th place with a nice run of fixtures. Now it's all ifs, buts and maybes...

danielrhyd - You are right, I don't know why anyone is surprised anymore by one decent performance or result, followed by a bad that. That is Liverpool, circa 2013, nothing to make a fuss about, the team is not good enough to go higher at this point. Tottenham lost and Liverpool were not good enough to take advantage and really give themself a chance of getting closer to the top sides. That's what teams in mid table are like.

That's inconsistent Liverpool. It was exasperating to see Allen start over Lucas/Henderson. The guy (Allen) couldn't even string two passes together and is, without a doubt, one of our worst signings in a long time. I just hope his performances improve in the coming seasons.
