Radamel Falcao demonstrated why he is the No.1 transfer target for so many top European clubs by snatching a 1-0 victory for Atletico Madrid at Sevilla with a classic poacher's goal.

The Colombian poked home a shot from Raul Garcia with 14 minutes remaining to decide a closely-fought match which kept Atletico on course for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Fernando Llorente scored his first Primera Division goal since September to earn 10-man Athletic Bilbao a 1-1 draw from their trip to in-form Deportivo La Coruna.

Bruno Gama had Depor dreaming of a fifth successive victory with his 38th-minute strike when he found the roof of the net from the edge of the box to get on the scoresheet for a third successive game.

Depor's lead lasted just six minutes, though, before Athletic got back on terms when Llorente showed his aerial prowess to nod home Andoni Iraola's right-wing cross.

Llorente and Markel Susaeta were both denied by the woodwork for Athletic in the second half before the visitors had Ander Iturraspe sent off nine minutes from time for a second yellow card.

Nine-man Getafe's hopes of qualifying for the Europa League suffered a blow after they lost 2-0 at home to Espanyol.

Joan Verdu gave Espanyol the lead on 37 minutes when he started and finished a wonderful team move. Verdu gave the ball to Christian Stuani and the midfielder chipped a cross to Sergio Garcia, who aimed a cushioned header into the path of Verdu to shoot past Jordi Codina with ease.

Getafe had the ball in the net not long after when Alberto Lopo's header was ruled out for offside before Borja Fernandez was shown a second yellow card on 52 minutes.

Federico Fernandez became the second Getafe player to be dismissed with 18 minutes to go and Espanyol scored from the resulting free-kick as Stuani finished from close range.

Osasuna could not get the win they needed to arrest a poor run of form that has them hovering just above the relegation zone, but did enough to frustrate Real Sociedad's European ambitions in a 0-0 draw.

There were desperately few chances of note at either end, although Sociedad's Imanol Agirretxe was denied by a post midway through the first half with a header from a corner.
