Manchester City

JOE HART: Surprisingly preferred to Costel Pantilimon. Had little to do in the regular 90 minutes and could do nothing about Ben Watson's fine injury-time header - 6/10.

GAEL CLICHY: The Frenchman was given a torrid time by Callum McManaman and offered little going forward - 5.

PABLO ZABALETA: Roger Espinoza was a real threat on the left for Wigan and Zabaleta was slightly fortunate to get away with a lunge on the Honduran in the area. Booked for a foul on McManaman and given a second yellow for felling the forward in the 84th minute - 5.

VINCENT KOMPANY: It was a good tussle between the City captain and Arouna Kone, with both coming out of it with credit - 7.

MATIJA NASTASIC: Caught out by an early Callum McManaman run but otherwise looked assured. Booked for a foul on the striker - 6.

YAYA TOURE: The midfielder, City's matchwinner two years ago, had a good early shot turned away by Joel Robles but was otherwise disappointing - 5.

SAMIR NASRI: Some nice link-up play and a good shot saved by Robles but not in the game enough and substituted early - 5.

GARETH BARRY: Produced a timely tackle to prevent James McArthur getting a shot on goal. Kept Shaun Maloney quite quiet - 6.

DAVID SILVA: Neat and tidy with his passing but not the creative force he can be - 6.

CARLOS TEVEZ: Looked a threat and denied by one superb save by Robles where he probably should have scored - 6.

SERGIO AGUERO: Would have scored at the start of the second half but for the intervention of Emmerson Boyce, and too quiet for City's liking - 6.

Substitutes:

JAMES MILNER (for Nasri, 54): Made a couple of forays down the right but could not change the momentum - 5.

JACK RODWELL (for Tevez, 69): One header on target - 5.

EDIN DZEKO (for Barry, 90): Too late to make an impression - 5.

Wigan Athletic

JOEL ROBLES: The on-loan Spaniard has established himself as Wigan number one and he showed with his three brilliant first-half saves, in particular one with his feet from Tevez - 8.

EMMERSON BOYCE: The Latics' longest-serving player captained the side and was a solid presence in the heart of defence - 7.

ROGER ESPINOZA: Espinoza produced a terrifically energetic display as left wing-back and might have won a penalty - 8.

PAUL SCHARNER: The Austrian looked more comfortable in a back five but still showed a tendency to give the ball away dangerously and cheaply. Some fine clearances - 6.

ANTOLIN ALCARAZ: The return of the classy Paraguayan from injury was a huge boost for Wigan and he was a key factor in their improved defensive display - 7.

JORDI GOMEZ: Not as much of an attacking presence as sometimes but helped out his defence well - 6.

JAMES McCARTHY: The midfielder is rumoured to be on the radar of bigger clubs and he gave an assured display - 6.

JAMES McARTHUR: Playing in an unfamiliar right wing-back role, McArthur handled the challenge well - 6.

SHAUN MALONEY: Wigan's best player this season was not the force he can be but still sparkled at times and set up their winner - 6.

AROUNA KONE: The striker faded after a superb start but was always an outlet - 7.

CALLUM McMANAMAN: The 22-year-old was the star of the show, tormenting City all through the game. His display was only missing a goal - 9.

Substitutes:

BEN WATSON (for Gomez, 81): Proved to be Wigan's hero with a fine header into the top corner - 7.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
