Hull boss Steve Bruce has wanted the Spurs club captain all summer and revealed on Sunday that his side had agreed a deal "in principle" to sign the 30-year-old England international.

Dawson revealed he is delighted to be joining the Tigers and said his limited playing time at Spurs was a big factor in his decision to make the move.

“I know this club well and obviously there is some family history with my brother Andy having been here,” said Dawson.

“I’m just excited about getting started here now. The whole football club made it an attractive move to me – the manager, the squad of players, the fans. I feel ready and raring to go.

“Leaving Tottenham after ten years there was always going to be hard for me, but the chances to play there were going to be less and so a move to Hull City represented a great opportunity for me.

“At the end of the day, footballers want to play football and that wasn’t going to happen for me at Tottenham. Once the owners and the manager here had been in touch with me about the possibility of a move, I just knew it was right.

“It’s going to be a different type of challenge here. The season this club had last year was incredible, getting to the FA Cup final and retaining their place in the Premier League.

“We have to build on that and look forward to the season ahead.”

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said Dawson was a fantastic servant to the club during his at White Hart Lane and called him an under-rated player.

"Michael has been an outstanding club representative both on and off the field throughout the nine-and-a-half years he has served our football club,” Levy said.

"He has always given everything for the Spurs shirt - just one of the reasons he is so deservedly popular throughout the club with team-mates, staff and fans alike.

"His contribution cannot be under-estimated. He has been a fantastic individual and personality and a great influence on our younger players, for whom he always found time.

“We wish him the best of luck in the next chapter of his career."

Dawson leaves the club he joined from Nottingham Forest in 2005 and has made over 300 appearances for, scoring 10 goals.

He was made Tottenham captain following the retirement of Ledley King in 2012.

he thing is, footballers are role models, and children are influenced by them. I watched the Chelsea game with my 6 year old, and at school the next day she stamped on Emre Can.

et again Barcelona try to convince the world that they only play the most virtuous of football. I've never seen a team so willing and able to dish out lumps but feel so self-righteous that no opposition player should ever have the audacity to tackle them.

d love to see a United v Liverpool FA cup final. It would certainly fit the narrative. Obv I'd want the ending to be one of an O.G. and tears as he collects his runner-up medal.
