Wayne Rooney: Continues to be linked with a move this summer

Our Transfer Focus feature looks at Wayne Rooney as he continues to be linked with a move to Paris St Germain.

Wayne Rooney's Manchester United future is again in doubt as speculation mounts that Paris St Germain are targeting a summer swoop for the striker.

There have been conflicting reports in the press about the likelihood of a deal happening and Sir Alex Ferguson has again insisted that the England international remains part of his plans.

Sky Bet make PSG the 3/1 favourites to swoop for the forward when the transfer window opens up again but we already know that uncertainty over the 27-year-old's future can quickly evolve into a soap opera.

The 2010 Rooney transfer saga - during which Manchester City were leading the race for his signature - ended with a new five-year contract at United, just two days after the former Everton man had expressed his desire to move on from Old Trafford.

Will we once again see Rooney commit his future to the Red Devils or is now the time for him to head for pastures new? We don't have the answer to that question just yet, but check out our Transfer Focus feature to get some clues:

Who Wants Him?

PSG (3/1 to sign Rooney this summer with Sky Bet): PSG are the favourites to sign Rooney and there have been plenty of reports to suggest they are very keen on acquiring the forward. Carlo Ancelotti's men top Ligue 1 by nine points and look well on the way to enjoying a period of sustained dominance in French football. More high-profile signings would make top clubs across Europe nervous and they certainly provided Barcelona with a big test in the quarter-finals of this season's Champions League. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lucas Moura, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Javier Pastore are already at PSG so do they really need Rooney? Possibly not - but this will be a squad that evolves continuously over the next few seasons so don't be shocked to see a space for the England 27-year-old appear.

Bayern Munich (10/1): This deal would be a surprising way to start Pep Guardiola's tenure at Bayern. It would be a shock if the swoop happened as it looks like Robert Lewandowski is the main striker the Bundesliga champions are targeting - Bayern are the 4/7 favourites with Sky Bet to sign the Borussia Dortmund forward this summer. Mario Gomez has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena so maybe we can expect more than one new striker arriving in Munich?

Manchester City (16/1): It would be very easy to make a case for Rooney arriving at the Etihad Stadium if we were back in October 2010. That was the time the Rooney transfer saga dominated the back pages and even the main news bulletins were full of talk about the striker's future. Time has, of course, now moved on but City could do with a striker and maybe they will be tempted to raid their rivals. Radamel Falcao or Edinson Cavani appear more likely targets for Roberto Mancini, but you can be sure that there have been discussions about Rooney.

Real Madrid (22/1): This move would see Rooney reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo but it looks unlikely. Radamel Falcao is again a more likely target for Real and the Spanish newspapers might not welcome the deal after being full of criticism for Rooney prior to the Champions League last 16 clash against Manchester United. Monaco would appear more likely suitors with their desire to make a big splash in the transfer market this summer - but it would still be a big ask for the Englishman to join a newly-promoted club to France's top-flight.

Also available with Sky Bet: Everton (25/1), Tottenham (28/1), AC Milan (50/1), Monaco (50/1), Anzhi Makhachkala (50/1), Barcelona (50/1), Chelsea (50/1), Inter Milan (50/1), Juventus (50/1), Inter Milan (50/1).

Sky Bet's Andrew Lee says "At the moment PSG are favourites to secure Rooney's signature - he was 9/4 to move there, backed in from 3/1 when we first put the market up.

"Leonardo has commented that he knows nothing of the Rooney rumours, but make of that what you will - especially as an ex-PSG director has spoken of his confidence that Rooney will be playing in the French capital next year.

"We have also seen some business for him to move to Real Madrid, the price looks attractive to punters.

"There have been rumours of him switching to Manchester City over the last three years, so a move to Eastlands wouldn't be impossible."

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
