Raul Rusescu: Not bought to replace Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo

Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriguez has refuted assumptions the club have bought Raul Rusescu to replace Alvaro Negredo, who has been linked away from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Rusescu was the top scorer in the Romanian league as Steaua Bucharest won the title and his arrival on a five-year deal was announced on Thursday.

The transfer is set to be completed on Monday subject to the striker passing a medical and although the club revealed there is a 40million euros buy-out clause, no other financial details of the transfer were given.

The deal comes just days after Jesus Navas moved to English Premier League side Manchester City and is the first new signing for Sevilla this summer.

It also coincides with speculation surrounding the future of forward Negredo with club president Jose Maria del Nido claiming the club had rejected a 17million euro offer from West Ham, saying Sevilla were under no pressure to sell following Navas' transfer.

Rodriguez also insisted Rusescu's arrival had nothing to do with Negredo and told the club's official radio station SFC: "He does not come to replace Alvaro Negredo because today, unless I haven't heard, he is a Sevilla player.

"Negredo has nothing to do with the arrival of Rusescu.

"We read so many things these days."

Of Rusescu, he added: "He is a player we have been following for some time.

"He is a good striker with a good first touch and good technique."

onfirmed. Nick Miller is a douche bag. Lazy, incoherent rant is what this article should be titled. And for the editor to have the temerity to pass this as acceptable writing is shocking. Ah well, anything for clicks right? You got mine. Well done. Your mother must be proud.
