Malaga defender Weligton has successfully undergone an operation on his broken collarbone and is set to be sidelined for two months.

The 33-year-old Brazilian suffered the injury during the first half of Malaga's pre-season friendly against Aston Villa earlier this month following a collision with the Premier League club's striker Christian Benteke, who scored twice for the home side in a 3-2 win at Villa Park.

A statement on Malaga's official website: "Malaga's Weligton underwent surgery today at Barcelona's Hospital Quiron.

"The 'Malaguista' will remain at the Hospital Quiron in Barcelona for the next 24-48 hours. A recovery time of two months has been estimated by medics."
