Darren Ferguson: Praise for Dwight Gayle

Gayle joined Posh, initially on loan, from Dagenham & Redbridge last week and came on as a second-half substitute during the 1-1 draw with fellow npower Championship strugglers Ipswich on Saturday.

"Dwight Gayle did very well when he came on," said Peterborough boss Ferguson ahead of his side's league game at Charlton on Tuesday night.

"He penetrated their defence and created a couple of good opportunities for himself.

"It is a big step up for him from League Two but he has settled in very quickly. He has an excellent temperament, which always helps."

Gayle could make his first start for the club against the Addicks if fellow loanee Saido Berahino fails to recover from a knock. The West Brom teenager was replaced by Gayle at Portman Road after sustaining a knee injury.
