Parkinson's men are still in the FA Cup and Capital One Cup, but they showed no signs of giving up on this competition as they put in a determined shift from start to finish.

Ritchie Jones gave the Yorkshiremen an early second half lead when his side-footed low shot nestled inside Chris Neal's left-hand post from 16 yards, before Craig Forsyth made sure of the result with a 53rd minute strike.

The Bantams boss said: "This is a good competition to be in and we are now only two rounds from Wembley. The JPT is now put on the backburner until after Christmas so it shouldn't affect anything else. We can continue to concentrate on one game at a time.

"Port Vale are an excellent side who are near the top of our league on merit, but our lads were terrific and I thought we thoroughly deserved to go through.

"Vale have made changes, but we did as well and the lads we brought in showed a real hunger and desire. No-one sulks if they are left out of the team and we've got a strong squad who are all as one."

Bradford entertain Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup next Tuesday, but Parkinson's men are also in the hunt for promotion and he added: "Our league game at home to Torquay on Saturday is the most important.

"All our attention will now be focused on that and we will only be able to look forward to the Arsenal game if we beat Torquay. We've set high standards which we are taking from game to game and winning is a great habit to have."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
