On Wednesday, Hibs extended the striker's loan deal from Wolves until May, a week after revealing he would be the subject of a private disciplinary process as police began investigating an alleged racist tweet sent by the 22-year-old.

Griffiths, who has scored 14 goals for Hibs this season, this week vowed to focus on his football and Fenlon is determined to do everything to allow the Scotland international to make headlines for the right reasons.

Fenlon said: "There is no doubting his ability. He's got tons of ability and he's a good character.

"When you have a player like him that has real ability and has real good character but has some flaws, then you want to help him and you want to work with him.

"Whereas if you have a player with real ability who doesn't want to work and has a lot of flaws, well then you tend to push him aside.

"But with Leigh, his attitude to training and playing, his work rate, his honesty, you have all that stuff and he's a good person as well.

"We want to help him and we will help him. We have helped him and will continue to do that."

Fenlon brushed aside questions about the former Livingston and Dundee forward's recent indiscretion and showed he was generally more frustrated with the press interest in the player's private life than his behaviour.

"Sometimes it makes me want to pull out my hair in relation to some of the stories that appear in the paper, that I find amazing," Fenlon said.

"In relation to the last incident, the club have made a comment on that and that's the best place to leave it. We'll deal with it as a club like we always do."

Hibs also extended Manchester City defender Ryan McGivern's loan deal this week and are trying to do the same for midfielder Jorge Claros, who is on loan from Honduran outfit Motagua until January 29.

But Fenlon, who allowed winger Ivan Sproule to move to Ross County last week, will not wait until then for an answer as he bids to retain his current squad size.

"With Ivan going we need to replace him and if Jorge goes we need to replace him as well," Fenlon said. "We won't leave it to the last minute. We'll make a decision, if they don't, before that.

"We do have some good options in there if Jorge decides to go or his club decide to take him back.

"There's a lot of work going on and we'd love to keep him to the end of the season, but if it's not to be then we have to look after the club."
