John Stones: Flattered by interest from Premier League

The England Under-19 international defender has come through the youth tanks at Oakwell and a host of top-flight clubs are chasing him.

Now Stones admits he is flattered by the interest being shown in him - but also says he is happy progressing with Barnsley.

"I'd love to play in the Premier League one day, every player dreams about doing that," he told the Sheffield Star.

"The Premier League is regarded as the best league in the world, so it would be amazing if I got the chance to play there one day.

"I don't know what's going to happen, but if a Premier League club did come in for me then it would be a very big decision for me. I'm still very young and I'd have to consider a lot of things, but right now I want to stay at Barnsley. I've signed a deal until 2015 and I'm happy.

"It's very flattering that some Premier League clubs have shown an interest in me, but right now all I want to do is concentrate on playing for Barnsley.

"I've been a Barnsley player all my life and I'm just focusing on playing for the club at the moment.

"This season has gone so well for me and I've really enjoyed it. I really have just taken things one game at a time - and that's worked well for me."

New Barnsley boss David Flitcroft added: "He's a player we can't get off the training ground and out of the gym. He works so hard and deserves his opportunity this season He's gutsy, resilient and determined to be successful.

"He's got quality."
