Russell Anderson: Highlights McGinn importance

McGinn's 17th goal for Aberdeen was enough to see off Dundee at Pittodrie last night and help Craig Brown's team maintain their push for a top-six place in the Scottish Premier League.

Scott Vernon is the nearest challenger for the top goalscorer tag on just five goals and McGinn showed his worth again when he beat two men and fired the only goal of the game in the 18th minute.

Anderson told RedTV: "It was a really good individual goal and I think it just goes to show again how important he is to the team.

"If you had taken Niall's goals away from us I think we would be really struggling.

"It was a great signing from the manager and he popped up again with a great goal for us."

The 1-0 win was Aberdeen's first victory in seven games since their previous fixture against Dundee on December 29, and Anderson was relieved after Isaac Osbourne's hamstring injury left them a man down for a nervous finale.

"We'll take the three points," the defender said. "We have been desperate for them for a while now.

"Especially with the circumstances - finishing the game with 10 men for the last 20 minutes certainly didn't help our cause.

"You could see the effort and commitment from the players to try and see the game out and fortunately we managed to do that."
