Chris Hughton: Wants players to focus on their own task

The Canaries battled to a 1-1 draw at Sunderland on Saturday, where they had goalkeeper Mark Bunn sent off after half an hour.

Wigan's win over Newcastle on Sunday saw the gap between Norwich and the relegation zone cut to seven points ahead of their trip to the DW Stadium after the international break.

The Latics have played a match less than the sides above them, as the fight for another season of top-flight football looks set to go to the wire.

Hughton, though, insists Norwich - who have lost only once in seven league games, but with five draws - must just concentrate on doing their own job rather than what might happen elsewhere.

"We have continually said the 40-point mark is where we want to get to and others have said it might be less, but I think if you start looking at less than that there are too many teams around us and below us," said Hughton, quoted in the Eastern Daily Press.

"I am still adamant that our thought process has to be around that 40 point mark.

"If you think less than that then football has a habit of smacking you in the face.

"We have tough games, four at home and four away. Everybody in this division is fighting for something.

"You see the series of games over the weekend and that was definitely the case, they are all big games.

"We just need to get those points to end up where we feel we deserve to be."

Norwich will have several of their squad away this week, including Scotland duo Russell Martin and Robert Snodgrass.

Hughton intends to use the break in domestic action productively.

"We will certainly give the boys not on international duty a few days off, but we can also work at the training ground," he said.

"For the ones who do go away that is good from the point of view of the benefit they get playing international football, but the rest of them will be working here."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.
