Dougie Freedman: Pleased with Bolton's battling spirit against Middlesbrough

Marvin Sordell's penalty proved to be the winner after Kieron Dyer had equalised Chris Eagles' opening goal, with Boro centre-back Jonathan Woodgate sent off after giving away the crucial spot-kick.

"It was a very good team performance," said Freedman after his side secured their eighth straight home victory.

"You've got to remember that we've played three very intense games in a week, so to hang on and dig in is what's getting us in the top six.

"What you've got is a group of players who have got a spirit you can't deny. No team I believe in the top six have got that right now. That commitment is getting us results.

"We had that setback in midweek (a 3-2 defeat at Leicester) but every time we lose a game or draw a game, we bounce back and that's what we do on the pitch as well.

"If we give the ball away we quickly get it back and this is what the team is all about."

As for the Trotters' chances of remaining in the top six, Freedman added: "The play-offs are in our own hands now, but it's still going to be difficult with us having to play Cardiff and then Blackpool.

"However, it's a great thing to have at this stage of the season and we wouldn't want to have it any other way."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
