Tom Ince: Hailed fans after scooping awards

Ince was a shining light in an otherwise disappointing season for the Seasiders, who struggled to make an impact in a competitive Championship despite a strong start to the campaign. He bagged 18 goals to ensure Blackpool were never really threatened by relegation.

The player left Sunday's awards night with five prizes - Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year, both voted for by the fans, Blackpool Gazette Player of the Year, Players' Player of the Year and the John Schofield memorial trophy (Player of the Year).

Ince, 21, was humbled to receive so many accolades but insisted he was simply doing his job and rewarding the fans for their support.

"I have to say a big thank you to all the Gazette readers who voted for me. It means so much. I couldn't have done it without the amazing support I've had since I joined this club," he told the Blackpool Gazette.

"I play football for the fans. They pay the money and I feel I have to impress them, so to get so many votes from the people who matter is phenomenal. I have to offer a major, major thank you to all the fans."

Ludo Syvestre's injury-time volley against Derby County on the penultimate weekend won goal of the season but the night belonged to Ince, who said it was "a proud moment" to win five awards in a talented side.

"I've had a fairly good season and I always wanted to add goals to my game, and luckily I've been able to do that," Ince added.

"But it's not just about me, you have to look at players like Kirk Broadfoot, Alex Baptiste and Barry Ferguson - all these players could have easily won."

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.

amous. If that can be achieved whilst sitting in your pants and without any degree of hard work, all the better. I have no desire to be famous, but the rest of that line suits me just fine. Great article by the way, well worth the wait.

here seems to be little focus on the performance of Besiktas. They played very well and stopped Arsenal from playing. Credit has to go to their manager. As much as Arsenal didn't play too well, we kept a clean sheet, but the home side made it very difficult.
