The midfielder was on the wrong end of a 1-0 semi-final scoreline against Italy in Saturday night's European Under-21 Championship clash at the Ha Moshava stadium in Petah Tikva.

Van Ginkel has been widely tipped for a switch to Chelsea from his Dutch Eredivisie club Vitesse, although he is now being linked with Manchester United as well.

Speaking to Sky Sports News Radio after the game, he said: "My future? Now I have a vacation and I'll concentrate on that. After my holiday, we will see. Maybe!"

When told that new Red Devils boss David Moyes is reportedly an admirer too, he added: "Manchester United, I didn't know... I have two more years at Vitesse. It's a club who's growing, so I'm also happy there."

The Jong Oranje enjoyed over two-thirds of the possession against the Azzurrini, and had 10 shots to their opponents' eight, but could not find a way through, with Adam Maher coming closest with a fifth-minute free-kick that hit the woodwork.

A mistake by substitute defender Mike van der Hoorn allowed Liverpool striker Fabio Borini to steal in and snatch what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 79th minute, setting up a final against holders Spain in Jerusalem on Tuesday.

Van Ginkel said: "I thought we were the better team today. Sadly we didn't score, although we had a lot of chances.

"Italy didn't have as many, but one went in. After that, they just defended.

"We had a lot of possession, but sometimes we made small mistakes with the ball. I thought that on the counter-attack, Italy weren't so dangerous - our defenders were stopping their strikers - but in the second half, one chance goes in and you lose the game."

Small mistake

The 20-year-old says the Dutch squad will rally around team-mate van der Hoorn, who entered the fray in the 75th minute as a replacement for the injured Stefan De Vrij but was turned by Borini three minutes later for the game's decisive moment.

"Mike came into the game, and then he wanted to cut in before the striker... it was a small mistake, and we'll take care of him," he added.

Looking back on the team's run to the U21 Euro semi-finals, van Ginkel says he will take positives away from Israel.

"The first two games we played really well. Against Spain, it was a little bit less but they're a good team. Now we have a holiday and we go on to next year."

m not sure about this distance covered malarky, plus that stat comes with *since February attached to it, that's just 1 month. I mean I have 27 open cases I'm 'working on' at the moment but believe me others with 10 cases work harder than I do. I just got back from a pub lunch, scampi and chips (+4 pints) in case you were wondering.
