Ashley Westwood: Relishing the chance to improve at Aston Villa

Westwood joined from Crewe last summer and helped play a part in Villa's survival in the Premier League.

And the 23-year-old, who has been impressed with the training under Paul Lambert, insists he has already come on leaps and bounds since arriving in Birmingham.

"The training at Villa is unbelievable. That's the big thing I have noticed coming from Crewe," said Westwood.

"The training is so sharp and if you're not on it every day in training, you get found out. The drills are fantastic - it's so enjoyable to be part of it.

"It's all sharp, snappy stuff - one and two touch. That suits me down to the ground, working on possession. It's fantastic.

"I have improved massively as a player since being here. I can't undersell that point.

"But the gaffer has given me masses of belief. He gives you the confidence to go out and play and that's served me well in some big games.

"Coming from League One, you naturally think it's a big jump playing against the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City. They do have top-quality players, brilliant players, but you have to remember they are human and you must believe in your own ability.

"My aim now is to keep on improving under the gaffer. You have to keep striving. One thing I am certain of is that I can develop here."

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
