LFP announce new fixing probe

The president of the Spanish Football League (LFP) has confirmed that police are investigating claims that a Segunda Division match between Hercules and Sabadell last season was allegedly subject to match-fixing.

Hercules coach Quique Hernandez has accused the then-Sabadell defender Abraham Paz of "selling himself" during the game on March 17th, which Hercules won 3-1.

Paz, who has since left the Catalan side to join Israeli club Bnei Sakhnin, strenuously denies the allegations.

"Recorded conversations have come to light and the league is aware of them," Javier Tebas told AS while on a promotional visit to Buenos Aires.

"The Sabadell coach, Mr [Lluis] Carreras, informed the league about the conversations, and we have informed the police and filed a complaint to the Spanish Football Federation.

"The conversations took place in May, the Federation and the police know about it and it will be subject to legal process."

Tebas was elected as LFP president in April and has made cleaning up match-fixing his number one priority.

He again pledged to act tough on any teams involved in the practice.

"We want a clean sport and so sanctions should be put in place, such as automatic relegation or points deduction," he said. "Our sport and our competition must be clean.

"The worst thing would be to know about these things and not denounce them. We must have an image of promoting clean sport.

"I have to recognise that up until now this subject has been treated as a minority issue."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
