The KNVB Beker holders looked to be on course for victory when Johann Berg Gudmundsson gave them a 52nd minute lead which was doubled by Aron Johansson in the 68th minute.

But an own goal from Jeffrey Gouweleeuw a minute later gave Ajax a route back into the match and the Eredivisie champions made the most of it by adding an equaliser from Kolbeinn Sigthorsson six minutes later.

Ajax then completed their comeback 13 minutes into extra time thanks to De Jong's header to secure the Super Cup for the eighth time in their history.
