Sebastien Squillaci: The defender says he has no regrets about his time at Arsen

Signed from Sevilla in 2010, the 33-year old only managed 23 league appearances for the Gunners during a frustrating three-year spell for the former France international.

Squillaci departed the Emirates Stadium this summer, returning to Ligue 1 with Bastia, and he admits that his time in England did no go according to plan.

"My last seasons at Arsenal? In my mind, I was training for my future club. I didn't want to after one season without playing," Squillaci told L'Equipe.

"When I was down, I told myself: 'Don't give it up. You can still play two or three more years.' Before joining Bastia, the most serious other offer was Sion. I met the chairman.

"Do I regret to have joined Arsenal? Not at all. In my whole career, I have absolutely no regrets. You can't refuse a proposition from Arsenal. It was a very good experience to have known the Premier League, Arsenal and London."

Squillaci only featured once for Arsene Wenger's side last term and he says that he was not fully fit when he first arrived in the Premier League.

"When I arrived, I played and achieved good matches. I came just after the 2010 World Cup and I had almost no preparation with Sevilla so I paid for it in December.

"I was less good because I was less fit. In the Premier League you immediately pay for that. Then, when you don't play so well, it's difficult to come back."
