Lazio's stadium ban has been partially revised

The capital club were punished by European football's governing body with a stadium ban for the third time this year following racist behaviour by a section of their fans, who also unfurled an inappropriate banner and ignited fireworks during last month's 1-0 victory over Legia Warsaw.

A 40,000 euro fine was issued to Lazio and coach Vladimir Petkovic was also handed a warning after the match kicked off late.

But on Wednesday a statement from the club read: "Lazio announces that with regards to their Europa League game against Apollon Limassol on November 7 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, only the Curva Nord section of the stadium will be closed."

Lazio were sanctioned on four separate occasions for racist chanting by their fans last season - including home and away ties against Tottenham.

UEFA forced the club to play their Europa League last-16 and quarter-final home ties against Stuttgart and Fenerbahce behind closed doors in March and April.

Fans were subsequently denied access to the Curva Nord - where Lazio's hardcore supporters traditionally gather - for the opening game of the current Serie A season against Udinese after racist abuse was observed during August's Supercoppa meeting with Juventus.

Lazio first meet Apollon in Thursday's Europa League Group J match in Cyprus.

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
